Earwigs

Earwigs are easily identified by the menacing-looking pincers (cerci) protruding from the back of their abdomens. Despite their intimidating appearance and the old myth that they burrow into people's ears, they are relatively harmless to humans. They prefer dark, damp areas such as wet mulch, leaf litter, and under rocks.

When the weather outside becomes too hot, dry, or overly saturated, earwigs often migrate indoors, seeking shelter in basements, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. Their frightening appearance and tendency to gather in large numbers make them an unwelcome intruder in any home.
